Blackburne in Bloom
While the city of Edmonton has discontinued, their front yards in Bloom program, another organization has stepped up to provide some support. The Edmonton Horticultural Society has launched a pilot project this year in 20 communities and Blackburne has been selected to participate!
The ‘Our Neighbourhood in Bloom” program has been designed to “honour the creativity, care and community spirit that Edmonton residents continue to pour into their front gardens.” This program will operate differently than the previous program. Timeline and plan:

The ‘Our Neighbourhood in Bloom” program has been designed to “honour the creativity, care and community spirit that Edmonton residents continue to pour into their front gardens.” This program will operate differently than the previous program. Timeline and plan:
- July 1- 10 please stroll through our community and consider any yards that you would like to nominate
- Please fill out the nomination form and submit by emailing to janetekert@gmail.com or placing in the mail box at 924 Blackett Wynd
- Week of July 12th: All nominated yards will receive a post card (provided by the Horticultural Society) to recognize their efforts.
- The top 10 nominated yards will also have a lawn sign to reflect this nomination.
- While previous Blackburne in Bloom winners can be nominated, they will not be eligible to win the competition this year to recognize the efforts of others as well.
- July 16-31 The top 10 yards (according to the number of nominations received) will be judged by the Blackburne in Bloom committee (judges from within and outside of the community).
- August 15 – Winner and 2 runners up will be announced with small prizes awarded and recognition signs placed on their properties.
Many thanks to Janet, Sheri and the other volunteers in our Blackburne in Bloom Committee! We are also thankful that the Edmonton Horticultural Society is supporting this program and chose our community for this pilot! Have fun and best wishes to everyone! Your efforts in your front yards help to beautify our community and we appreciate you!
